Just so we are clear, this job isn’t all glitz and glamour, swag and boozy lunches. It’s elastic waistbands and nearly passing out on a pub crawl because you aren’t at the pro level yet. I’ve been doing it about a month and it became clear real quick that I wouldn’t get the opportunity to go back to the places I really love often; a girl can only eat out so many times before they will have to load me out of my house with a crane or I go bankrupt. Or both.
So I was thinking to myself, what’s the one dish I’ve had during this adventure that I’m most sad I don’t get to revisit weekly? The answer came to me quickly: the Lobster Mac & Cheese from Smokin Fins. At $16.99 I realize it’s comfort food at a price, but man alive, is that price worth it. “Maine lobster tossed in a four cheese cream sauce, cavatappi pasta, baked with bacon panko crust topped with green onions,” this skillet offering is deserving of an even longer run-on description. With massive chunks of lobster and the perfect creamy/cheesy ratio, this dish makes my Mac & Cheese loving self have to rearrange my top 5 list. I first ordered it at a meeting that I feel like I paid attention to, but have no memory of what anyone actually said. Later that week when I had what we will call a Personal Life Crisis, it was the only thing that I knew would make me feel better, and cheaper than a therapy co-pay, it was my go-to. This can’t always be the case though, what with the aforementioned elastic waistbands and crane loading system.
A huge serving that comes with a toast type situation, I took home leftovers that I planned to eat for dinner and instead became an after-lunch snack. That’s the ultimate compliment, don’t you think? Leftovers often find a home in my fridge for so long they should be paying me rent, so if I’m cursing myself for not keeping a fork in my car for these type of “can’t wait until I get home” emergencies, it’s a capital B, capital D, Big Deal.
Smokin Fins is still fairly new and I had wanted to do a full review for you but I just know it’s going to take a few more trips to convince myself to order anything else. Making this my Eat of the Week. Which is only sad because I haven’t had it this week. But it’s only Tuesday I guess.
