Sometimes my dinner choices are inspired by readers just as much as readers are inspired by reviews. A few weeks ago a Twitter conversation popped up about someone eating at a Chinese restaurant in a gas station (that’s Sally’s Kitchen, for those who missed the review), and twitter readers starting tweeting about the review. Not feeling like cooking dinner or going grocery shopping that night, I was reminded of how close they are and that they deliver.
Dinner decision made!
The Preschooler and I drove down to order and pick up (because we lost our menu and they don’t have an online menu). When I first went for the review months ago, there was nobody else there to eat but us. After publishing the review, there was a line. Crazy! I always worry that food and service might slip after a popular review, but they were just as fast and fresh as before.
I ordered the lemon scallops – a risky choice for a restaurant in a gas station. However, they were cooked perfectly. Large, soft, fleshy scallops that were not over-cooked, with a nice fried breading and a delightful lemon sauce. And the portion size was very generous, so that hasn’t changed since their increased popularity, either.
I never get tired of restaurant conversation with readers, and it often reminds me of where to eat when I’m not out for a review. Because of that reminder and the great dinner – Sally’s Kitchen makes today’s “Eat Of The Week!”
*and I still think they really need to get their technology act together and get an online menu.
